Linden, N.J. – March 2008 – Rotuba, a custom extruder and compounder, was awarded the Philips Lighting Supplier of the Year Award for 2007. This honor was awarded by Philips Lighting’s two largest U.S. facilities located in Tupelo, Miss. and Sparta, Ten.
Rotuba’s 97 percent overall score lead them to receive Supplier of the Year in two categories: Best in Category for Extruded Plastics and Best Overall Supplier. To receive the award, Rotuba had to demonstrate exceptional scores in four categories: quality, service, price and delivery.
“Our top suppliers are really a resource we rely on to continue our great success in this industry,” said Robert Rankin, vice-president of operations at Philips Lighting. “Rotuba, the best of the best in 2007, earned this honor through extraordinary customer service, unmatched by over 350 suppliers.”
Rotuba produces extruded plastic in both sheet and profile form for Philips’ lighting fixtures. Over the span of Rotuba’s 10 year partnership with Philips Lighting, they have built a strong relationship that includes support from parts design through production. This strategic partnership leverages Rotuba’s ability to develop new products and support Philips Lighting’s goal of attaining one-third of their revenue from new products.
“We are honored to receive this award from Philips Lighting and attribute it to the great partnership we have built, as well as our unique ability to handle custom projects and deliver custom profile parts from design through production, within two to four weeks,” said Rotuba president, Adam Bell. “This fast turn around is a result of having both a tool shop and design team in-house, ensuring that projects run smoothly and efficiently.”
The ability to provide custom extruded parts is not only a growth area for Rotuba, but for the industry as a whole. The need for customization is driven by the needs of OEM’s to increase profit margin.
“It is a growing trend,” said Bell. “And one that Rotuba is poised and ready to support right away, unlike competitors that are just now gearing up to better handle this demand for custom processing.”
For more than 60 years, Rotuba has been an industry leader in custom compounding, with its brands including Auracell and Naturacell, and in custom extrusions for the lighting and point-of- purchase sectors. Today, Rotuba is at the forefront of the shift to a greener industry with NaturacellTM, an environmentally friendly polymer that works with existing tooling, so customers can start processing it right away. Derived from trees, a sustainable natural resource, Naturacell is a durable, attractive plastic that can be made transparent and can be reprocessed, recycled and reused in most applications. Rotuba and Naturacell are the smart choice for processors looking to meet increasing green demands around the world.
